Altered burp cloths made from diapers are such a fun way to insert a little of your personal style in a new parent wardrobe. They also help keep your clothes drool free.
This set was designed in the color palette of the school where my little sis teaches. We began with 3 cotton diapers. Pre-washed them with no fabric softener and used no dryer sheets when drying.
Next, we whipped up a batch of Cherry Rit Dye. We soaked our clean diapers in water to re-wet them. We used rubber-bands to tie off random and stripes. Rit has a great tutorial for tie-dyeing. See it here. Next we placed the diapers into the dye bath and let them soak until we reached a deep red. Then we removed the rubber-bands, rinsed till the water ran clear and washed with a baby friendly detergent.
Next up, was pinning polka-dot ribbons to the cloths.
Then it was time to stitch. I used a medium length stitch and sewed as close to the edge of the ribbon as possible.
You can stitch the ribbons in countless patterns.
Fold them, stack them and tie or pin with a ribbon.
