Memorial Day Front Door Star
Forget a traditional wreath this holiday weekend and show off your pride with this faux quilted star made with Mod Podge and fabric. This is a great way to use up little scraps of fabric and ribbons.
Materials:
Metal or papier-mâché star
FolkArt Acrylic Paint - Azure Blue
FolkArt Extreme Glitter - Turquoise
Foam Paintbrush
Scrap paper & pencil
Red, white and blue printed fabric – 2 prints
Scissors
Mod Podge - Matte
Wood star shape
FolkArt Extreme Glitter - Red
FolkArt Acrylic Paint- Engine Red
Tulle
Hot glue gun
Scrap ribbons
Steps:
1. Paint the star with a coat of Folkart azure blue paint. Allow to dry. Paint 3 layers of turquoise Extreme Glitter over the blue paint. Allow to dry in between coats.
2. Make a template of the sides or points of the star shape with a piece of scrap paper. Use the template as a guide for cutting out pieces of the red, white and blue printed fabrics. For this design I used two different prints.
3. Apply Mod Podge to the star and place the cut pieces of fabric into the Mod Podge, add a coat of Mod Podge over the fabric. Smooth with your fingers and reposition if the fabric slips.
4. Paint the small wood star red and topcoat with 2 layers of Extreme Glitter in red. Hot glue a poof of tulle behind the star. Hot glue the tulled star to the center of the star. Tie decorative ribbons to the top of the star.
Hi Cathie!
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable! I ♥ it. It'll be great for the fourth of July as well. Thank you so much.
It's so lovely! The stars projected a 3D effect.. Was thinking of ideas to create for my children's room and I came across your website.. Nice!
